1. The biggest being eggs!
2. Kids pets
3. Learning the life of a chicken
4. Kids responsibility
We researched a lot of information before deciding how we were going to raise them, where we were to put them and the cost of raising them. A school day when we were all home we surprised the kids and let them know today was the day we were going to purchase the chicks. We had decided on two before we even left the house. When we got to the feed store there they were waiting for us the kids picked out there chicks and mommy and daddy worked on getting the rest. The total for two chicks, feeder, feed, and waterer was $30! Not a bad start!
For the first couple of weeks they stayed under a lamp in a box in the garage, in a couple of days we would begin building the chicken coop. So yes we got TWO chickens the kids named them Lighter and Cinderella. Then after two days David had this vision that they needed some friends so while we were with our home school friends at the park he went and got two more, came to the park and surprised them with the other two who were named Charlie and Tinker. And then there were FOUR!
